"The Rewards of a Close, Connected
Relationship"
by Susie and Otto Collins
If you've ever wondered whether "working"
on a relationship
is worth all the trouble, by the time you get to
the end
of this article, we feel that you'll absolutely
know that it is!
Recently we received the following question and we
think
it's a great one that many of you may have been
mulling
over--
"I'm contemplating entering into a new
relationship and I have
a lot of baggage from the past. What are the
'ongoing' and
'abundant' rewards of creating the 'relationship of
your dreams'?
Why should I enter into a relationship and do all
that hard
work? I'm trying to decide about a new
relationship and I
need some encouragement to get over my fears."
So what are the "ongoing" and
"abundant" rewards for
creating the relationship of your dreams?
Since creating the relationships of your dreams has
a
different meaning to you and to everyone else that
will read
this article, the best thing we can do is to share
straight from
our hearts about the rewards we experience in our
own
relationship.
Here are some of the rewards...
1. We have the safety to be who we really are
with each other
which is usually very rare in our society.
2. We get to experience the joy and bliss of
connecting deeply
with another soul on all levels--sexually,
physically, emotionally,
mentally. We really get to "feel"
love.
3. In many relationships when conflict and
challenges
come up, there is only a deepening of pain and
distance.
In our relationship, conflict and challenges do
come up but
because of our commitment to work through these
challenges,
we regain our connection and closeness as quickly
as possible
instead of staying stuck in resentment, anger and
pain.
4. In connecting and loving each other, we
are loving ourselves
more and expanding into our true potential.
5. When we are mostly deeply connected, we
get glimpses of
an extension of a connection to whatever name you
want to call
our Higher Power, Creator, God or Source.
This is a place where all pain, doubt, and
confusion seem to melt
away and there's only love. In our lives so
far, it's only been
through our deep connection through love that we've
been able to
reach that place. While relationships are not
the only place or
way to reach this state, this is where we have
experienced it.
Here are a few of the ways we've found to create a
close,
connected relationship...
1. Be willing to open your heart and let love
come in.
2. Let go of everything that has happened in
any relationship
in the past that is making you fearful of moving
forward into a
life and relationship filled with possibilities.
3. Decide that you deserve love and you want
love. Consciously
and intentionally decide what you want in a
relationship and then
make that known to the Universe, God, Spirit or
whatever name
you assign to the Higher Power and do not settle
for less than
what you want.
If there's one thing we want to share with you, it
is a message
of hope and possibilities. No matter what has
been your
experience in relationships up until now, we want
you to know
that a deep, connected love is possible because we
and others
have this as part of our experience.
We believe that no matter how much love you've had
in your
life up until now, more is available to you.
Let your intentions be your guide for the love that
you want.
As Henry David Thoreau said, "If one advances
confidently in
the direction of their dreams, and endeavors to
live a life
which they have imagined, they will meet with a
success
unexpected in common hours."
